Recap of the Scholastic Tournament of September 6th 2009

We had 15 participants in the event: Cross table: http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?200909069081

Highlights:

Bigger trophies and healthier snacks (apples & bananas now)

TROPHY WINNERS (top 5): Special thanks to the Peterson Family for making the nice-looking trophies!

  • Happy Ullman was the happy winner of this event with a perfect 5.0 result! Being the highest-rated player in the tournament also helped!
  • Gerardo Bruno usually ends up being 1st or 2nd in this event. This time, he had a tough competition in Happy; to whom he conceded his only loss.
  • Faiz Shamji had his best result ever! His 3.5/5.0 was good for a trophy as well as 192 rating points (314-506).
  • Blake Isara, one of Michael Angelo’s students, had a fantastic first tournament result with a score of 3.0/5.0 and first rating of 1162! Keep it up Michael and Blake!
  • Leo Creger was the also a trophy winner with 3 wins.

MEDAL WINNERS (top 3):

  • Tigran Avetisyan won his 2nd medal ever with 3 wins while gaining 53 points (511-564).
  • Max Caplow won his first ever medal. His rating also jumped from 393 to 496; gaining 103 points.
  • Dante Peterson was the final medal winner with 2.5 points; although, he was not feeling well and had to leave early before last round game.

DISNEY-PRIZE WINNERS

  • Bennett Koh, Mick Peterson, Kinhthi Sanborn, Chris Moon, Evan Collier, Max Smith, and Raghav Ramanujam formed the rest of the gang winning Disney prizes!

My philosophy:If any youngster has the courage to compete in tournaments with others, he/she is a champion to us. And, therefore, deserves a prize! That’s why I would like to offer a prize to each participant in this tournament!

Best Regards, Mick
